Rochdale Jazz Club - The Dixie Beats Return 2019
This week we welcomed The Dixie Beats back at Rochdale Jazz club , I have photographed the band before at the club so this time I wanted to try something alittle different in terms of the photos we got. I decided to make a point of getting closer and getting in the scene as much as possible to try and capture the atmosphere and feeling of the music, I also decided to shoot in mono to get some atmosphere which seems to suit jazz music.
The Dixies gave us a night to remember with lots of classic traditonal songs along with some more mellow standards and also some history lessons from Richard about Trad jazz and it's origins !
The night was warm in the club and the music was nothing short of excellent which was to be expected with the level of musicianship they have between them. The blew the roof of the place and gave some fabulous solo's in almost every song. I'm no expert on traditional jazz but it's not hard to appreciate and enjoy the wondeful music these guys create. They generated a wonderful atmosphere and entertained the memebers not only with fabulous music but also with a very warm and welcoming attitude to the locals which made the evening all the better. All in all a great night of music for everyone along with a very very relaxed set of folk who clearly love what they do. I do hope we see them again soon , also hope you like the photos and they maybe give alittle of the atmosphere and feeling of a great evening.
The band are :
John Percival ( Trumpet )
Alex clarke ( Reeds )
Richard Slater (Trombone )
Scott Johnson ( Banjo and Guitar )
Karen Johnson ( Drums )
Steve Allen ( Double Bass )
